EDVIK Consulting Kenya Limited (ECKL)  is an independent Structural Engineering Consultant in Kenya and Civil Engineering Consultant in Kenya, established in 2019 with offices at West Park Towers, Westlands, Nairobi. We provide Engineering Consultancy in Kenya with a strong focus on quality, cost effectiveness, and client-centric solutions in the built environment. Our vision is to be the premier provider of Structural Design Services in Nairobi and beyond, delivering excellence across all stages of engineering project delivery.

 Through its founding director, key staff, and associates, the company prides itself on a combined experience of over 40 years in delivering Building Structural Design and managing a wide range of projects including medium to high-rise buildings, retail malls, power projects, bridges, water supply systems, sewerage structures, housing, and related infrastructure works. This positions us strongly among trusted Infrastructure Design Consultants in the region.

 Our specialist expertise covers Structural Design Services, peer reviews, and construction monitoring of structural engineering works for buildings and infrastructure. We also provide Construction Supervision Services, ensuring quality execution from foundation to completion. These include water and sewerage systems, bridges, culverts, water reservoirs, and power plant structures.
We further deliver advanced Structural Assessment and Audit Services, including Structural Integrity Assessment to ensure safety, compliance, and performance of existing structures. Our capabilities extend to Structural Retrofitting and Rehabilitation, helping clients restore and strengthen aging or distressed structures to meet modern standards.

 In addition, we offer modern BIM Engineering Services, enhancing coordination, accuracy, and efficiency across design and construction phases. The founding director, Eng. Jonathan Mbui, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK and Kenya) and brings specialist expertise in managing construction contracts, with a focus on dispute avoidance and supporting dispute resolution through ADR mechanisms where necessary.

FOUNDER

Managing Director and Consulting Engineer 

The principal founding director Eng. Jonathan Mbui brings into the company over 30 years of experience in engineering consultancy, having progressed through the ranks and profession to become a director and co-owner of Howard Humphreys, one of the largest engineering multidisciplinary consultancies in Kenya and the Eastern African region. Among other directors he was involved in the management-buy-out of Howard Humphreys (K) Ltd, a renown multidisciplinary engineering consulting practice first established in Kenya in the 1930’s with its original roots in Britain.

As the operations director of the company responsible for all engineering services provided by the company, Eng. Mbui contributed to growing the company from a team of 26 staff in 1999 when the management buy-out took place to a peak of over 200 staff before acquisition of the company in 2016 by Atkins, a most respected multidisciplinary international consulting firm and currently a member of SNC Lavalin of Canada.

During his tenure with Howard Humphreys, and subsequently with Atkins, Eng. Mbui was responsible for design of some of the iconic buildings in Nairobi as the lead structural engineer of record including Britam Tower, Two Rivers Mall, Garden City Mall and I&M Bank building in Kigali Rwanda, among many other projects of varying sizes, complexity and scope.

Eng. Mbui left Atkins in 2019 and founded EDVIK Consulting Kenya Limited (ECKL) to continue providing similar services to clients, but also to release some of his time to pursue other interests, including mentoring and developing young engineers and related professionals in the built environment in the course of providing quality consulting and design services to clients.

Quality Assurance and Control in Structural Engineering Projects

Eng. James Mahinda has vast professional experience in engineering design, construction supervision, management and administration of construction contracts of civil/structural engineering projects. He was the lead engineer at the Olkaria Unit 6 Geothermal Power Plant. He is the Technical Director & Principal Engineer at Edvik Consulting (K) Ltd. He has worked in several multi-disciplinary project teams in civil/structural engineering projects. He is proficient in structural engineering design software including 3D modelling using Building Information Modelling (BIM) design suites. He is an Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit Structures. Previously he worked at Howard Humphreys/Atkins as a Senior Structural Engineer. He is registered as a Professional Engineer by the Engineers Board of Kenya and Corporate Member of IEK. He served in the IEK Taskforce for Status of Engineering in Kenya.

ECKL is registered by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) under Engineers Act 2011 as an engineering consulting firm and holds a valid practicing license to provide structural and civil engineering services in Kenya.

The founding director, Eng. Jonathan Mbui, holds multiple professional affiliations and certifications. He is registered as a consulting engineer by EBK and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. Additionally, he is a Chartered Civil Engineer in the UK and a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) UK, the Architectural Association of Kenya, Engineers Chapter, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK and Kenya). 

Furthermore, ECKL, under the guidance of its founding director, Eng. Mbui, is also a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya (ACEK), which is associated with the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC). ECKL is also a corporate member of the Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS)
